About Me

My photo
God has blessed me tremendously with an amazing husband, Doug, and two gorgeous little boys, Gavin and Joey. It has always been a dream of mine to have a large family but God may have other plans. I had a series of 6 consecutive early miscarriages when trying for baby #2. We are currently trying for baby #3 after our 7th miscarriage. I am faithful that God's plan is perfect, even when I am not happy about it. I love comments and meeting new followers so please don't be shy!

Day 16: Nipple Nurture Balm

When I brought Joey home from the hospital I was 100% dedicated to breast feeding him.  I was doing great at the hospital.  When I got home I started getting sore.  His latch wasn't always good and breaking the latch was even more painful than childbirth.  He would have a death grip on there!  I wanted so much to have those picture perfect moments of nursing my newborn in quiet sleepy moments.  Yeah... I didn't have that very much in the early weeks.  My nipples were hurting.  I was tearful as he nursed as I tried to muscle though less than perfect latches.

I had tried various lanolin nursing creams that were so sticky that putting them on my already sore nipples would cause me to question if there really was a benefit.  Then trying to get that stuff off so that baby could nurse again (an hour or two later) would make me regret using it in the first place.

Fairhaven Health has Nipple Nurture Balm that is made from all natural, organic ingredients and is lanolin free!  It is safe for mom and for baby and only uses natural moisturizers!  It can provide soothing relief, heal affected areas, and even prevent cracks from reappearing.  You can even store it in the refrigerator for a special cooling effect.  I wish that I would have had this on hand for those early weeks with Joey.

Enjoy those precious first moments with your blessing.  Don't let sore nipples get in the way of bonding with your baby.

You can win a 1.5 ounce tub of Nipple Nurture Balm by commenting on this post.  If you have breastfed in the past, tell me if you had any discomfort and if you think that it affected your ability to bond.  If you are not yet a mother, tell me why you think it is important to breastfeed your little one.

I am a mother but have not yet been able to breast feed as my boys were born 10 and a half weeks premature and are in the nicu. But I have been pumping every three hours around the clock since they were born. I was doing good with it until I developed some soreness last night. On top of my fatigue I had a few moments where I questioned the worth of pumping. But then I glanced at photos of my boys and realized its totally 100% worth it. It's one of the few things I can do for them right now.

I breastfed my daughter because it was the best thing for her. Turns out it was one of the best things for me too! It helped with postpartum weight loss, reduced my risk of breast cancer and helped me bond with my daughter.

I had some discomfort with her, mainly on what I called the 'silly side'. My right breast had a slower letdown that my left, and I often had nipple pain after nursing on that side. (Probably because she had to work that much harder to get anything going on that side. ) I used a lanolin cream, but would love to try something new this time!
